CS Lewis (1898 – 1963)

CS Lewis, (or Jack Lewis) was born in Belfast on November 29, 1898. He was the second son of Albert Lewis, a lawyer, and Flora Hamilton Lewis. His older brother, Warren Hamilton Lewis, (Warnie), had been born three years earlier in 1895. The family home, called Little Lea, is situated only a short walk from Belmont Tower.
When Lewis’s mother died in 1908 the two boys were sent to boarding school in England, Wynyard School in Watford outside London. However the school closed in 1910, and he returned briefly to Campbell College a local Belfast school. After a year, however, he was sent back to England to study. During the following years CS Lewis made many trips home to his beloved Ireland.
Belmont Tower
Belmont Tower was a building of CS Lewis’s time and all around this historic venue is steeped in CS Lewis history. There are plans for CS Lewis Interpretative Centre to be located in Belmont Tower. Currently information stands on CS Lewis are displayed in the Belmont Tower coffee shop.
