Official Visit by Lord Mayor to the Belmont Tower Craft & Outdoor Market Fair on 5th December 2009

The Lord Mayor joined with visitors to the area and local residents, in viewing the Belmont Tower Craft and Outdoor Market Fair in east Belfast, a popular recent initiative in the city.

The Craft Fair is on the first Saturday of each month (except January). Inside the building visitors were able to browse among the stalls of some of the best local craft makers, while outside the best of local produce was on offer, including fresh flowers, fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. And,in the run up to Christmas, visitors were able to order their Christmas tree and have it delivered, sip mulled wine (non-alcoholic available) and listen to Christmas music. The coffee shop on the first floor was bustling as many ordered a freshly made cup of coffee and something tasty to eat.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Naomi Long, said: "The preservation of this beautiful listed building has been a fantastic success, not only because it has kept a historic landmark building for future generations but because it has kept this former school building very much at the heart of the community.

"The work of the Preservation Trust in managing this project is to be commended and I am delighted to see it so well used as a venue for such a diverse range of activities and events such as this".

Entry to the Craft Fair is free.
